Abstract :
The recent technological developments which raises the wireless traffic needs has lead the dense deployment of the self-organizing network (SON) architectures in order to compensate the needs of the wireless network capacity. However, the challenge of energy consumption has become a crucial problem in these dense SON deployments. Being inspired from the biological immune system´s simple but effective default features like auto-configuration and auto-memorization, in this paper, we propose a novel immune-system inspired energy efficiency self-configuration framework for SONs. More specifically the self-configuration concept is redefined mapping the B-cell concept in immune system. Here, three different techniques, i.e., the user switching, the coverage area decrease and the sleep mode, are proposed in order to provide effective solutions for the self-configuration behavior of the SON system. An analytical derivation of these different solutions is also presented by the aid of the Markov chain state diagram. It is shown that the proposed energy efficient SON framework increases the acceptance rate of SON base station´s transmission requests. The evaluations also show that the proposed framework provides an optimum level in order to stabilise the fluctuations of the energy consumptions.
