Abstract :
This paper presents nonlinear control design and implementation methods to achieve improved dynamic responses of digitally controlled switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) without compromising stability margins. The implementation, which includes a programmable A/D quantizer, is relatively simple and well suited for practical high-frequency SMPS controllers. Simulation and experimental results, which are presented for a point-of-load 5 V-to-1.3 V digitally controlled synchronous buck converter, show significantly improved step-load transient responses
