Abstract :
The quality movement has significant lessons. The issue now is to apply our learning from these lessons to a recovery from downsizing and rightsizing. A concept called quality upsizing is suggested. Upsizing is more than the opposite of downsizing. What business/industry needs is to position itself for the future. In a global economy with deregulation facing many industries, re-engineering and downsizing address near term issues, but are the processes the right processes for the future? Are the attitudes and motivations of employees and management congruent? Quality upsizing requires a shift from reactive to proactive management, insightful leadership, and a culture that restores trust, loyalty and pride in one´s company. Upsizing does not necessarily mean more people, it means doing the right things to take an organization forward, to meet the needs of an expanding marketplace, in a world class competitive environment, while delivering even higher levels of quality
