Abstract :
A new single switch energy recovery circuit for low cost plasma display panel is proposed in this paper. Generally, to achieve the energy recovery of PDP, an energy recovery circuit which is composed of auxiliary active switches, diodes, inductors and capacitors are added to the sustain drive circuit. These additional devices cause a complex, large, heavy and expensive circuit. And an active switch needs a gate drive circuit to generate switching gate signal. Moreover, a capacitor in the circuit has an equivalent-series-resistance which inevitably generates heat and consequently reduces the lifetime of the circuit. For the simpler, smaller and lower cost energy recovery circuit, a new energy recovery circuit which has a single switch with no capacitor is proposed in this paper. In the proposed circuit, the resonance between the panel capacitance and an inductor can charge or discharge the panel from Vs to -Vs and vise versa. The operations, features and design considerations of the proposed circuit are presented, and the proposed circuit is verified experimentally
