Abstract :
Broadband networks can bring significant economic and social benefits to society, but only if proper applications are found. Critical care telemedicine is one of these applications where extremely high quality audio and video are needed, in a time-critical manner. By using broadband networks and advanced video technologies, we have implemented a telemedicine system for emergency departments in local hospitals. It has proved to be a big success in both clinical and technical outcomes. This paper will address the underlying technologies and discuss the potential problems for wide deployment of these technologies
