Abstract :
The different polarisation mode dispersions (PMDs) under consideration include combinations of wavelengths at 850 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm with either serial transmission or a coarse 4 channel WDM transmission operating on either multimode fiber or single mode fiber. Modeling and simulation are important tools in evaluating the various PMDs under consideration and selecting which should be included in the standard. After the standard is finalized, modeling and simulation will continue to be important in designing components and links which faithfully implement the standard. There may be a number of different goals for modeling and simulation of the 10-Gigabit Ethernet optical link PMDs
