Abstract :
TD-SCDMA (time division synchronous CDMA) is proposed by the Chinese WTS (Wireless Telecommunication Standards) to ITU and accepted as a 3rd generation standard for mobile radio applications. This contribution gives an overview of the basics, the implementation and the benefits of TD-SCDMA for optimized spectrum efficiency in TDD operation for symmetric and asymmetric services. The 3rd generation services differ from those of 2nd generation by the transmission of symmetrical and asymmetrical high bit rate data services e.g. mobile Internet. Only TDD operation allows for maximum spectrum utilization in the case of asymmetric services. Therefore, a new optimized TDD transmission principle has been developed based on combined FDMA-, TDMA-, CDMA- and SDMA-operation. This scheme of TD-SCDMA uses the existing GSM infrastructure with 3rd generation service availability. The radio scheme of TD-SCDMA is able to operate in all mobile radio applications and environments
