Abstract :
An approach is presented for the acquisition of route related data by means of recognizing vehicles that pass different survey points. This recognition approach essentially relies on vehicle license plate matrices that are provided by standard video cameras. A recognition pipeline is conceived where the main steps are a frame selection method, a segmentation: technique for the localization of plate matrices, a feature extraction method and a recognition process. The single steps are discussed in detail and recognition rates that have been achieved in a field trial are presented
