Abstract :
The new concept of customer infrastructure that can improve energy efficiency and accept various distributed energy resources for the electric industry to grow constantly for the next decades solving global energy security crisis and global warming problem from excessive CO2 emission. AMI (advanced metering infrastructure), the customer service infrastructure between the end user and the electric company, is a essential kernel system for implementing Smart Grid and a principal means of realizing demand response based on supply-demand mutual recognition. The Korea Government is establishing the mid & long term plan for introducing Smart Grid in Korea and supports AMI development project as one of Smart Grid projects. Much works of procedures and methods for AMI project is needed for successful progress and results. This paper presents the status and plan of ongoing AMI project in Korea.
