Abstract :
This paper describes a chip that can extract high resolution motion from a surface which is illuminated with laser light. There are many applications for this technology including a fully digital microphone that converts sound into a digital output without A/D conversion of the sound signal. The chip contains about 100,000 transistors, and is fabricated using a 1 μ double metal, single poly process. The complete chip occupies an area of about 25 mm2
