Abstract :
This paper presents a ΣΔ analog to digital converter based on a new “single shot” architecture. The circuit is targeted at applications, such as industrial automation, where it is desirable to multiplex inputs from a number of independent sources. The “single shot” ΣΔ does not require filter settling and so maximises the overall conversion rate for multiplexed applications. The fabricated converter consists of a fourth order ΣΔ modulator plus a simple digital filter. It achieves 16 bit resolution with an oversampling rate of 200 samples per conversion. The circuit produces a new conversion every 350 microseconds
