Abstract :
This paper proposes a sequential clustering method as a tool for effective clustering of transmission systems. The interconnected power system contains locational information for each transmission line, such as locational marginal price (LMP) and network-related characteristics of the system. With such locational information of each bus, this paper aims to carry out regional clustering for the interconnected power system. Regional clustering is primarily based on transmission usage rate, so called the similarity measures of regional information and LMP. The transmission usage rate is determined by power flow based on congestion costs and similarity measure using the Fuzzy C-Mean (FCM) algorithm. This paper also aims to show the usefulness of the proposed clustering method by comparing its results with those of existing clustering methods that use the same similarity measure [9]. The method proposed in this paper is demonstrated in IEEE 39-bus.
