Abstract :
This paper proposes a real structured genetic algorithm (RSGA) to design a class of infinite-impulse response (IIR) digital filters. The method combines the real genetic algorithm (RGA) with the structured genetic algorithm (SGA) to obtain an optimal IIR filter by minimizing the filter´s order and the absolute sum error of both passband and stopband. With the proposed chromosome scheme, both of the system structure and numerical parametric variables can be simultaneously optimized. Numerical experiments show that our proposed RSGA yields a better IIR filter than with the existing GA-based method.
