Abstract :
Software development methods are discussed. The authors focus attention on the quality of the software process in the belief that it will yield a software product of high quality. The authors apply theories and concepts proposed by modern methodologists and weigh the benefits and the drawbacks of two software development approaches, the traditional approach and the incremental approach. In the Incremental approach, the system functionality is partitioned into a number of pieces. Each piece represents a useful, partial system to the customer. The authors choose the incremental approach in order to improve the quality of the software and the productivity of one software development team. The incremental development approach also makes subsystems available for customer delivery or for customer inspection throughout the software life cycle. The authors detail the objectives and the results of their experiment
