Abstract
After a description of the peculiar features of the Tore Supra magnet is given, the paper reports about the 4 year operating experience, with particular emphasis on the protection systems, the mechanical behaviour of the coil under repetitive loadings, the operation of the 1.8 K cooling system and the thermal loads. The Tore Supra superconducting magnet has been routinely operated with a current maintained constant on a whole day basis, for a programme of more than 10000 shots. Only one quench has been detected for which the protection system reacted as expected
