Abstract :
Electrical vehicles autonomy is usually affected by cells low energy density. In an EV scooter, due to the limited room and weight available, this becomes a design critical point. Li-ion cells seem to be the best solution to set up a good autonomy vehicle with a reasonable weight and volume occupation. Two different kinds of batteries are then tested to point out the single cell actual behavior. Afterwards, charge and discharge voltage profiles are obtained for a small pack and the best performing battery type is chosen. According to the observed cell to cell voltage mismatch, a monitor and balancing circuit is designed to provide individual cell protection and maximize the final packs exploitation.
