Abstract
As a way to meet the challenge of developing more fuel efficient and lower emission producing vehicles, auto manufacturers are increasingly looking toward revolutionary changes to conventional powertrain technologies as a solution. A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) combines some of the benefits of electric vehicles (efficient and clean motive power supplied by an electric motor, regenerative braking) with the features of a conventional vehicle that consumers expect (convenient refuelling, long driving range). The complexity of an HEV powertrain together with the vehicle´s many operating modes demand that supervisory or hybrid controller is developed at the vehicle to guarantee stable and consistent operation. This paper presents vehicle system controller and hierarchical architecture of HEV.
