Abstract :
The generalized Viterbi algorithm (GVA) is used as a blind equalization scheme in short burst TDMA communication systems. In addition, a new sequential algorithm is proposed to reduce the computational complexity of GVA. The proposed sequential algorithm is used in an equalization and cochannel interference (CCI) cancellation scheme which is implemented by GVA with an RLS-based channel estimator. The equalization and CCI cancellation scheme is blind in the sense that no knowledge of the training sequences of the interfering users is assumed. Simulation results show that good system performance as well as computational saving can be achieved as long as the sequential algorithm parameters are properly selected
