Abstract :
Shadows are the natural accomplice of objects. As such, they have affected various algorithms dealing with image segmentation, object tracking and recognition. A lot of research has been focused on removing shadows from images while preserving the information available in the shadow region. In this paper, we present a simple yet robust algorithm for cast shadow removal utilizing images taken at different times with different exposures. While different exposures allow good recovery of shadow regions, the time-varying feature is used to suppress the shadow edges.
