Abstract :
ROSE, an object-oriented database system for engineering applications, has recently been reengineered as part of the DARPA Initiative in Concurrent Engineering (DICE). The lessons learned from the first version of the system and the reasons for redesigning it are discussed. A detailed example illustrating how engineering applications tightly integrated with a ROSE database are built is presented. The role of the ROSE system in the DICE project and future plans for the system are discussed
