Abstract :
We present an optimization method for Superposition Coded Modulation (SCM) systems to approach the capacity limits of ergodic MIMO channels. The proposed method, based on EXtrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) analysis, aims to optimize the constituent channel codes and their corresponding power coefficients in a jointly manner. Simulation results show that optimized SCM systems with throughputs of up to 48 bits per channel use perform at less than 2 dB from the MIMO capacity limits with affordable complexity.
