  • Abstract
The reliability of modern HF-communication systems is essentially influenced by the effectiveness of the frequency management. The important functions are: selection of momentary best frequency from a frequency pool with dependence of transmission parameters; control of transmission quality; and change of frequency as a reaction to interference. Functions like these can be handled in a more effective way by fast processors with proper designed transmission protocols. The key for optimizing the procedures is the combination of different methods which are available for channel analysis. The evaluation of transmission characteristics in real time (real time channel evaluation), ionospheric predictions and link statistics are the basis for a proper automatic selection of frequencies in any situation within a radio network
