Abstract :
An antenna system for an ionospheric backscatter sounder is being installed by CNET at Lannion. This system has been designed to sweep the main beam in azimuth and elevation over a wide range of frequencies (6-30 MHz), while providing the most constant narrow-beam possible. Towards this aim the authors have proposed a method of beam shaping based on a physical approach. The effects of phase and amplitude dispersion associated with the elements making up the backscatter sounder on the performance of this new method are evaluated by simulation
