Abstract :
This paper describes a new method for resource allocation in the base station (BS) of a mobile communications network. The proposed method is controlled only by the BS which receives the call and is simple. The main advantages are its gain in overall grade of service (GoS) and its capability to offer a very wide range of trade-off combinations of the blocking probability for new calls and the probability of interrupting a call due to handoff failure. Only the BS arrival rates for both fresh and handoff traffic are needed to correctly tune the available parameters and achieve the desired trade-off between both components of the GoS
