Abstract :
Induction motors are widely used and often their construction is a basis for special drive systems. It is difficult to understand the behavior of such motors. An induction motor demonstration system was developed at Hochschule Harz to help students learn such behaviors. The system consists of seven main modules realizing a control loop. Each module is designed and can be improved separately as hardware related student projects. Doing so allows the instructor to cover a wide range of teaching subjects. The system can be used to measure and demonstrate the basic motor behavior and the quality of applied controllers. This contribution describes the modeling of five hardware modules and the induction motor. This sub system has an input voltage for the rotational speed of the applied magnetic field and an output of the rotational speed of the shaft. It describes the behavior of the linear area around the operating point of the complex drive system and can be used for the development of application specific controllers.
