Abstract
Even before microprocessors made the use of multiple processors so attractive, realtime or embedded systems were often built with multiple processors because of considerations such as attaining reliability through redundancy or reducing bandwidth requirements by remote data reduction. Today systems employing multiple processors have so many advantages that they are a serious contender for almost any realtime or embedded system. The paper reviews issues that affect the design and evolution of realtime applications that run on multiple processors
