Abstract
Presents a land mobile satellite communication system operating in the millimeterwave (51/40 GHz) as a representative system of a personal communication service using satellites. Intermittent communication is recommended to make the mobile Earth terminal compact, from the communication perspective and rain attenuation in this band. The mobile Earth terminal with a 5 cm diameter antenna and a receiver/transmitter (output power of 1.5 W) on a gimbal platform can communicate at 64 kbit/s via a satellite, utilizing state-of-the-art millimeterwave devices. An outline of the mobile communication experiment using a millimeterwave (43/38 GHz) transponder of the ETS-VI satellite is also described
