Abstract :
A comprehensive system has been developed which will meet the needs of airlines, air traffic control authorities, and other aircraft operators. Both voice and data services can be supported. The performance and potential of the system have been verified through an extensive and continuing program of tests and demonstration. Equipment is now being installed in aircraft and on the ground to support satellite communications, and by the end of 1989 a fully operational global service for aircraft will be introduced
