Abstract
ProLab2 is a Prometheus test car embedding a driver copilot designed by ten French laboratories collaborating with the French car manufacturers PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault and Matra. Prolab2 copilot human-machine interface (HMI) includes two major features. The first one is the opportunity for the driver to choose one of the three help levels the system offers according to his driving habits. The second one is that the copilot HMI is a multimodal interface using both graphic information (LCD display) and sound information (quadraphonic sound icons). This paper presents the whole of the HMI, especially the information given to the driver coping with various situations, the reasons why we made these different design choices and finally it describes the design methodology.
