Abstract :
A new design of hardware implementation for biological visual system using BiCMOS VLSI technology is presented. A visual system composed of a silicon dynamic retina, an optical nerve and an associative memory as a model of the biological visual system is constructed. A compact structure of 2-D BiCMOS silicon retina is proposed. The silicon dynamic retina generates in real rime outputs corresponding directly to signals observed in the biological retinas. It responds to both the intensity and variations in the intensity of incident light with time. The output of the retina is analogous to the output of the ganglion cells in the vertebrate retina. A new technique to realize the optic nerve based on Coincident Redundant Multiplex (CRM) together with the model of the biological cortex is demonstrated. The proposed model is based on the biological model of the human visual system
