Abstract :
Developments in information technology has progressed to a point where vehicles can communicate with a complex infrastructure to provide benefits to the vehicle drivers and road traffic authorities. One of the first applications will be the introduction of vehicle route guidance. A common European system architecture is required which will encompass the needs of various countries, drivers and vehicle types. This would provide an architecture on which other information and safety systems could be developed. The paper describes the results of a research study into possible system architectures for vehicle route guidance
