Abstract
The study, planning and development of most sources of power to meet future requirements all involve considerable time and investment and the implementation in general involves long construction periods. In parallel with such plans much attention is now being given to the refurbishment of power plants in order to sustain their availability and at the same time to the opportunities available for uprating. Many aspects both economic and technical have to be considered in the refurbishment of generating sets. The author describes the refurbishment of the generating sets at the Roseires Power Station in the Sudan and some of the work planned for the station in future
