Abstract
It is planned to install flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) plant during the 1990s to remove 90% of the sulphur dioxide (SO2) emitted from 6000 MW of the CEGB´s existing coal-fired generating plants. The CEGB also plans to install FGD plant at any future coal-fired generating stations. The authors describe the fundamentals of the FGD processes and their suitability for use in England and Wales. They also outline the electrical engineering and economic aspect of the FGD plant that would be installed by the CEGB
