Abstract :
In June 1987 the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published guidelines on programmable electronic systems (PESs) used in safety related applications. The authors provide an overview of the HSE guidelines on PES´s. The guidelines are relevant to safety related systems in a power station environment. The authors also provide information on PES guidelines developments taking place within HSE, industry and international standards bodies
