Abstract
A simple procedure for the evaluation of magnetic field in the vicinity of substations is presented and discussed. The approach is based on the concept that all power installations can be decomposed into conductor loops and characterized by their magnetic dipole moment. A practical example for worst-case values of the magnetic stray flux is enclosed, where the effectiveness of the method is verified with practical measurements at a substation in well defined operation.
