The author discusses several aspects involved in residual life estimation and subsequent retrofitting of turbogenerators. The useful life of individual components depend on the temperature, and electrical and mechanical stresses. The author discusses these factors and then goes on to discuss rotor retaining rings, rotor rewinding, excitation systems, and stator windings
