Abstract
Power control is an essential ingredient of all CDMA cellular systems. An improved distributed power balance algorithm for CDMA systems is proposed. The proposed algorithm improves the convergence speed and eliminates the problem of uncontrolled maximum transmit power of the mobile terminal found in an earlier algorithm. An error of less than 1 dB from the optimum C/I is obtained. The performance of this algorithm under a slow fading environment and dynamic behaviour resulting from arrivals and departures of the users is evaluated
