Abstract
The Open Microprocessor Systems Initiative (OMI), one of the areas of research in information technology partly funded by the European Commission and partly by the industry, focuses on designing on-chip systems through open designs and reusable building blocks, with the goal of improving time-to-market, decreasing costs and ensuring high quality for new systems. This paper focuses on how the industrial strategy in system design in the field of embedded applications has and will influence the development of tools for design in this area. A description of current R&D projects and future directions is given
