Discusses the newly emerged international standard for electronic directories. The author sets the background and rationale for the emergence of the directory standards; briefly describes the idealised structure of directory systems; discusses some opportunities for applying a specific directory system; and highlights some of the aspects which clearly require further refinement before being built into products
