Abstract
A tuning range analysis of a dual cavity erbium doped fiber laser (EDFL) is presented here. The stress is given on the dependency of the tuning range on the cavity loss in each ring. This study was made possible by incorporating an intra-cavity variable attenuator in both of the rings. By proper adjustment of the variable attenuators, both the signals can be made tunable over a spectral range of close to 50 nm covering almost the whole EDF spectrum, at any channel separation
