Abstract
This paper introduces a new method for reducing the storage requirements of numerical simulation data. The novelty of the method consists in delimiting and extracting user-defined regions of interest within the simulation results and then only saving the minimum information required for the later reconstruction of those regions. The method is proved reliable through two different test cases, a finite element and a finite volume problem. The results are discussed based on their accuracy, and future areas of investigation are outlined.
