Abstract
The authors review the research and development work carried out at Loughborough into solid state power supplies for electric process heating applications. Further work is at present in progress to increase power levels and improve operating efficiency of the lower frequency (typically 200 kHz) units. In the higher frequency power supplies research into device packaging and high frequency drive circuits has increased operating frequencies and further improvements in the interfacing with microcomputers is also underway
