Abstract
The authors discuss adjustable speed drives for power plant pumps and fans with horsepower sizes of 2000 hp to 7000 hp. They consist of a rectifier to convert 60 Hz power to DC and an invertor to convert DC to a full range of frequencies required to control motor speed. There is also a solid state microelectronics control system to adjust the frequency and voltage of the invertor
