Abstract
A novel technique for building variable characteristic `active´ filters is proposed. The principle of operation, methods of control, analysis and design of a typical active filter is presented. To assess the effectiveness of this technique, the proposed filter is used to control the input current harmonics in a phase-controlled converter. It is shown that by using a single filter a wide range of harmonics can be controlled
