Abstract
Although the series inverter has many attractive features it has not been applied extensively in the induction heating industry due to unexpected and/or unexplained inverter failures. The authors present a detailed, comprehensive and easy to follow design method for an improved series inverter which covers all passive and active components of the system. The inverter system consists of an input rectifier, an input filter of the inverter, the main inverter, the starting inverter, a blocking capacitor, a matching transformer, and a compensating capacitor. The design of complete inverter system is accomplished by designing each section of the inverter. For each section of the inverter, a step-by-step design procedure is given to select and rate the components. The design equations and curves of the inverter are presented. Finally, the use of design equations and curves to select the system components is illustrated by means of design example
