Abstract :
Modelling of four-wave mixing wavelength conversion in a semiconductor laser amplifier using two pump waves has been carried out. The mathematical model is based on solving numerically the carrier density rate equation inside the active region of the semiconductor laser amplifier and equations derived from the wave equation describing the interaction of optical fields with the active medium of the semiconductor laser amplifier. A custom-coded block has been created and used for modelling the wavelength conversion. The CCB is then used to investigate the effect of operating condition on the performance of the device and it is found that by optimization with respect to the operating conditions significant improvements in performance can be achieved. The model can be used on its own to study the feature of wavelength conversion or used in the block diagram of a system as a function block to analysis the system performance for research as well as for undergraduate and postgraduate educations
