  • Abstract
    The large increase in the use of electricity in Greece has resulted in an ever-growing electric power demand. The supply of substations, by high voltage overhead lines (OL), creates more and more problems, especially where they cross residential areas, as in suburbs of big cities. A type of support that is aesthetically pleasing and creates fewer problems to the environment makes the OL more acceptable. The Public Power Corporation (PPC) has decided to proceed with the design of a compact line, in order to reduce as much as possible the problems of right-of-way and also to decrease to a minimum the visual impact. The author describes the first compact line in Greece including the tapered steel poles, construction details, design philosophy, and insulator crossarms
