  • Abstract
A series of problems are encountered in the operation and maintenance of high-voltage overhead transmission lines (OTL), these being due to a large extent to the fact that such lines are permanently subjected to meteorological effects (lightning, ice, wind). In OTL some of these effects are of special importance, such as those derived from the generation of vibrations in the conductors under certain conditions as a result of wind action. Consequently, OTL projects should include a study of the probability of different types of vibrations occurring and the means to be installed in order to reduce them. However, it is desirable to have available methods that make it possible to contrast the factors considered in the project with the real inservice behaviour of the lines. The authors describe the work carried out by Hidroelectrica Espanola in this field
