Abstract
Shows how a simple functional language can be used for the description of telecommunication systems and complex systems in general. In particular it is shown how such descriptions can be structured to master the combinatorial state space explosion by using features of functional languages like equational function definitions and higher-order functions. The concept of default equations is introduced to support modular decomposition of definitions. There exists a large body of knowledge about formal manipulations of descriptions in functional languages. Some practical applications of this are also presented
