Abstract
For emerging wireless data applications, carrier phase extraction and I/Q mismatch are challenging parts of the receiver design. This paper proposes receiver architecture for detection of QAM signals that does not require estimation of the received signal phase and can be used in both superheterodyne and direct conversion approaches. A Simplified Independent Component Analysis (SICA) signal processing technique is developed and used to separate the components in the I and Q branches of the receiver. It is demonstrated that the proposed receiver is robust with respect to amplitude and phase mismatch of the local oscillator. The performance of the SICA QAM receiver architecture is illustrated through computer-based simulations.
